Connectivity and Dispersal in the Gulf of California

The purpose of this page is to present different results on the dispersion of particles from 17 different areas and the connectivity between all of them, starting the first day of each month. All these results are presented, as selected, at 2, 4, 6 and 8 weeks from released.

Advection of particles is done with an advection/diffusion scheme by the current field obtained from a three-dimensional circulation model (HAMSOM) of the Gulf of California. The model has a horizontal resolution of ~ 1.3 × 1.5 km and 12 layers in the vertical. It is forced by tides, winds and seasonal heat and water fluxes and seasonal hydrography in the mouth of the Gulf.

The user has the option to display the following results:

  1. Geographic dispersion from one of the regions of origin and histograms of the arrival to the final regions
  2. Spatial connectivity among the 17 regions and the average depth and standard deviation in the arrival region

For each of the previous selections can be displayed for the following options:

  • Initial month of the year (12 months)
  • Initial release layer (1-12)
  • See results at 2, 4, 6 and 8 weeks

WARNING: The results presented here are qualitative and should not be used as a key element for decision making. Also, the results are only representative for seasonal and tidal variation, so changes are not considered other frequencies.
